Through Education for Independence (EFI), FHI provides learning opportunities for people who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) as well as their families, case managers, host home providers and advocacy groups. We have a broad scope of program curricula and methods that we refine through collaboration with stakeholders to close the gaps of financial health understanding, increase the effectiveness of I/DD service provision, and improve the well-being of everyone. Content is organized into four general topic areas: Financial Health, More Than A Job, Doorway to Housing, and Welcome to the Virtual World. 

In our two decades of experience, FHI has learned that most providers have very little training in personal finances or economics. In many cases, the providers are also struggling financially and may feel inadequate when attempting to assist others in this area. By providing training opportunities to everyone in the I/DD community, we are creating a common language around the skills of managing finances, reducing stress, and improving health.
